Quests from The Panic Room: House of Secrets

Indisputable argument

Jack: Feather, Jenny is right. Much as I’d like to catch a breath of fresh air and go to a sports equipment shop, we’ll have to make bats here. It’s not difficult, but I will need your help.

Task: Go through the basement in the "words" mode. Find a baseball bat in the basement. You will not find the item immediately.

Jack: Well Feather, good news: we have no shortage of tools. Chisel, plane, tape measure, ring saw — we’ve got everything. Bad news: there’s no material. See, just a few wooden bars.

Jack: Part of them is even rotten. Let’s try to plane something that doesn’t fall apart from the first strike. It’s all better than breaking services with bare hands.

Bars are rolling down the stairs with a rattle.

Jim: Careful down there! I’m sorry, I couldn’t hold them!

Jim comes down to the basement with a bundle of wood in his hands.

Jim: I’ve stepped on a toy soldier and was lucky not to fall. Someone is celebrating the Independence day in his own way.

Jack: What are you doing here, Jim? Have you decided to worm out all the secrets of the Underground? You said no raven would come down to the basement.

Jim: You haven’t won yet to lay down conditions to the Followers. There was some firewood for the chimney left in the living room, and it’s long before winter. So I thought you could make use of it.

Jim: Am I wrong? Then I can bring it back.

Jack hesitates for a second.

Jack: Put it here. What kind of wood is this?

Jim: Ash-tree. Just what we need for a bat.

Jack: How do you know so much about baseball anyway?

Jim: You were not the only one to go in for sports in the university. Are we going to continue the quarrel or will you accept my help, so that both teams could be ready for tomorrow’s match?

Jack: Alright, here’s your working place. Jim, should I hint you what side of the chisel goes to the wood?

The doctor just smiled in response.

You’ve completed the task and received some freedom points and some tokens.

Jack: So, four bats. Two per team: one for the game and one spare. Striking players are well-equipped. Feather, Jim. Good work.
