Hide-and-seekMarie: I remember, that evening we were playing hide-and-seek. Traditionally, girls and lads should split into pairs — supposedly to prevent sensitive ladies from fearing the darkness. But I was able to artfully avoid the fate of becoming Roger’s partner by offering him to become the anchorman and find me himself. Task: Go through the study in ghosts mode. Leo: Marie? Marie: Leo, are you playing hide-and-seek too? Leo: No, I was just throwing everything dispensable out of the wardrobe. Marie: And why do you need to sit inside it to do that? Leo: It’s just very deep — there is a secret section behind front shelves. Marie: Then it’s the best place to hide from those pesky gentlemen! Is there enough space for two? Leo: I haven’t moved all the clothes yet, but yes, probably. Marie: Then move a little. Leo: Maybe I’ll just get out and let you in instead? Marie: No. Someone’s coming. Do you hear it? If you start getting out, you will give me away and I will fall into Roger’s clutches. Leo: Then come right here and close the outer door. Careful, don’t hit yourself. The other door is broken, but I will cover us with clothes. Fog: Lady Marie, I know you’re here. I’ve heard your lovely voice. Marie leans right to Leonard’s ear and whispers quietly: Marie: How can such a noodle have such a good...? Leo presses a finger to his lips. Fog: Are you in the wardrobe, light of my eyes? But it’s so dark and scary in there, and you are all alone. You hear a wardrobe door opening. The first compartment is in plain sight, but you are concealed by a secret wall and a thick layer of clothes covering the opening. Roger touches the inside of the wardrobe inch by inch. At some point he reaches a piece of clothing that’s covering Marie’s leg. She shivers, but Leo squeezes her hand, and the girl doesn’t make a sound. Roger shuts the wardrobe closed and lowers his voice: Fog: Empty. Could I have imagined it? Perhaps the voice of that rebel was coming from the next room. Leaving the room, he starts shouting again: Fog: Oh Marie, I am ready to sing odes in your honor! Your beauty overshadows even that of your sister, and it’s so hard to find a true Catholic in our land of Protestants! Marie rolls her eyes, saying only with her lips: Marie: What an idiot… After the sound of steps fades away, Leonard lets go of her hand. Leo: Did I hurt you? Marie: No, Leo, you saved me. Thank you. Leo: You are welcome, Marie. Marie: Can I stay a little longer or will you be scolded for not tidying up the wardrobe in time? Leo: No, I won’t be scolded. Marie: Liar. Marie leans forward and kisses him lightly on the forehead. You completed the task and received some points of freedom and some tokens Marie: After the game, when I was sitting in the wardrobe with Leonard, hiding from Roger, something has changed. I have realized what I really wanted to achieve in my life. |
