Quests from The Panic Room: House of Secrets

The Followers. Conversation of Brothers

Jim: Feather, shut the door and pass the test in the living room, please, so that my brother and I can talk in private.

Task: Go through the living room.

The brothers entered the room. Jim sat on the sofa, Jack collapsed on the armchair. You came into the room after them and closed the door.

Jim: Jack, I'm of no value to the Puppeteer, no more than you are. Just another one puppet.

Jack: Doesn't he take care of his servants?

Jim: We are not servants, Jack. The Followers do what they want, he orders us nothing and he doesn't give us anyting for it.

Jack: So why do you "follow his way" if you get no profit?

Jim: I don't follow his way, Jack. The cult of the Master Puppeteer was invented by Alice, I have nothing to do with it. I want to understand The Puppeteer and help the followers to keep their lives and reason, because they can even commit a ritual suicide under the leadership of this woman.

Jack: You are more insane than I thought! Why on Earth do you need to understand him?

Jim: I told you: nobody does anything for no reason. Why does he put people to tests? Why is freedom so important for him?

Jack: I don't care, he's just a damned freak and a maniac!

Jim: There are no born maniacs in this world, Jack, all of them once were ordinary people. That's why I want to understand his way of thinking. Why did he choose this house? What happened here?

Jack: All right, I see - you've got carried away by the mysteries of the house. And I believe that a crazy man who started to kill people doesn't deserve to be understood. That's why he is just a maniac, and I simply want to be free as soon as possible!

Just as the door openes, Jack leaves the room.

Jim: Well, we had a talk. My words may have surprised you, Feather. I really don't support mottos of the lesson, the master and all, but I'm interested in the personality of the Puppeteer and I want to know how he became... this man. I hope, you won't leave me and help to solve this puzzle.

Jim: And the abduction... Jack is quick-tempered but he is my brother. He will never shoot at me. Finally he would let me go. A bullet trace on the wall? A demonstration that the gun was loaded, nothing more. Alice was looking for me? It is good, that you had come before she found me, otherwise someone could get hurt.

You've helped Jack and Jim to talk in private. You've got some points of freedom and some tokens. Your reputation among the Followers has increased by 2.

Jim: By the way, it's been our first sensible talk since Jack came to the house. He still can't understand me. At least he's not bearing a grudge against me anymore. I think, you know that it was me who invited him. I had to share my observations, to consult. But I didn't know my brother well. Thank you for your help, Feather.
