Quests from The Panic Room: House of Secrets

What Bill thinks

Alice: Feather, why don't you go to the basement now? Oh, this old suck-bottle is thinking... And don't you find it strange that he prefers to think alone with a bottle of spirit?

Task: Go through the basement at night.

You go down to the basement, coughing from the heavy smoke. Bill sits on the boxes next to a bottle, the cipher messages lie in a semicircle at his feet. He turns to the sound of your footsteps.

Bill: My girl, I asked you to come in the morning...

You are about to leave when you hear Bill's words.

Bill: Yes, I think better with a bottle and a pipe... So what? Grab a pew. Listen to what I managed to unearth. Maybe it will stop looking like complete bullshit to me.

Bill: "Witchbridge case" is widely known in our city. I wasn't engaged in it but for those policemen who had come to this house that day it became the most important case in their lives

Bill inhales the smoke and takes a grave look at the notes.

Bill: It was so for the old Barney too. The first several years he stirred everybody up, he didn't believe that he boy could shoot the entire family... his partner, Charlie, helped him. It seems that it was the right thing to do. The old man retired a long time ago, in fact, I have forgotten about him.

Bill takes a gulp, wipes his lips.

Bill: The old man went missing last spring. I vaguely heard that he was, like, going to go somewhere. And it turns out that he didn't arrive there. He died because of the case of his life. Poor fellow.

You completed Bill's task. Your reputation in the Underground has increased by 1. You received some points of freedom and some tokens.

Bill: He dug out something about the real killer. And it seems to me that this might be our key. This boy, John, he started all this not only for the sake of the idea. He needed revenge. And frankly speaking, I understand it. That devil, who killed so many innocent people must be punished. Even if not in strict accordance with the law.
