Quests from The Panic Room: House of Secrets

Mystery of the Letter

Leonard: We have all the items that played a role in this story. Maybe we can read the letter now? Let's go back to the bedroom.

Task: Go through the bedroom in the shadows mode.

Leonard hands you the letter. The letters join into words, and where before there was nothing, you see a clear text of the letter written in neat handwriting.

Marie: Dear uncle! Since the day my father died I have not lived. Stepmother is good to me and means me no harm, but I am trapped in this house as though in a cage. I am 16, but she says I am too young for marriage, and so it is too early for me to come out. I spend most of the time in the company of lady's maids and other servants, but I want just a little freedom.

Marie: Believe me, my motives are pure, and I by no means want to abuse your hospitality, but... you wrote that you would send me an invitation for Christmas. So I plucked up the courage to ask if I could stay with you... not just for Christmas? I do not expect much, but I have a presentiment that... I am going to die here.

Marie: If the answer is yes, I ask you to inquire about the health of my mother in the next letter. Your loving niece, Marie.

You completed Leonard's task. You received some points of freedom and some tokens.

Leonard: She wanted to leave the house - she feared she would die within its walls. Too many had died here: her mother, her father... But perhaps there was more to it.
