Quests from The Panic Room: House of Secrets

Boomerang effect

The Puppeteer: Last characters of our story.

Task: Go through the unknown room in the "cache" mode.

You’re trying to figure out something, yet the screen shows nothing but static.

The Puppeteer: Don’t be quick to blame the projectionist for everything. He can’t change anything.

The camera keeps moving from left to right smoothly in a futile attempt to cover everything that’s going on in the room. You hear a crackling sound that is nearly unbearable. The urge to take off earphones gets almost irresistible, but just in a few seconds the sound goes back to normal.

The last wave of static leaves the monitor and now the picture is perfectly clear. From the corner of your eye you manage to notice a tail’s tip disappearing from the sweep of the camera. In another couple of minutes Jack appears on the screen. With a broom and a dustpan in his hands, he starts gathering broken glass.

The Puppeteer: Daily routine of the Underground. What, you think it’s boring? It’s art house, Feather. Meditative and unpleasant. Sometimes even painful, like that volume jumping.

Next recording. Jack is furious, he’s shouting. It’s impossible to figure out what exactly he’s shouting though. Something’s wrong with the sound, only this time it’s not noise, it’s complete silence.

The Puppeteer: What tension, what an outburst of emotion! Passions are rising! You can just gush with this. Something like his is fine without any sound, we should enjoy solely the facial expression. I wish we had a popcorn basket and some soda here.

Jack is unable to calm down, he approaches the wall and then… He hits it with a fist with all his might.

The Puppeteer: That’s my favorite moment! Isn’t it just breathtaking? Wait…

Video rewinds. Jack blows off once again. And then again. And again.

The Puppeteer: Is there an award for the best fight with a brick wall yet? We have a winner here! 100% guarantee.

The Puppeteer: Do you think I’m enjoying this? Not at all. If there’s a crime, there will be a retribution sooner or later. Jack threw a boomerang and it hit him right back. There’s no one else to blame for this outburst of anger.

Next scene. Jack is sitting on the floor, his hand is bandaged. He is carefully tracing out some text on a list of paper. A pile of finished posters lie nearby.

The Puppeteer: See? He’s not going to die or anything. He has calmed down already. Used his ingenuity for better causes. It ended up bad, but at least he didn’t harm anyone.

You passed the Puppeteer's test. You received some points of freedom and some tokens.

The Puppeteer: If Jack was so inconsiderate of others, how can he expect others to be considerate of him?
